What is ChessVS?

Chess, reimagined. ChessVS is competitive chess with a twist: every match is real chess, but you bring collectible ability cards, each tied to a type of piece, that can change the game. You still have to checkmate your opponent — but how you get there is now a strategy puzzle layered on top of the board you already know.

A ChessVS player profile card for @AlphaKnight: Bitcoinia club, Scout tier, a 1261 rating with its rating tier, Apprentice, and a join date of 8/24/2026, with four stat tiles showing a record of 11 wins, 7 losses and 1 draw, a 58% win rate, 9 cards and 4,370 XP, and a bar showing 4,370 of 5,000 XP toward the Challenger tier.

A player profile in the game: your club, your rank tier, your rating, your record against other players, and how close you are to the next tier. Practice games against the AI and Sparring Room lessons don't count toward your record.

If you can play chess, you can play ChessVS. If you've never touched a chessboard, the game teaches you both at once.

The one-sentence version

You play normal chess. Each turn you may also activate a card — a special ability tied to one of your pieces. Cards bend the rules in your favor, but chess always has the final say: no card can break the rules of chess.

What makes it different

Regular chessChessVS
Pieces move by fixed rulesPieces move by fixed rules plus card abilities

The three things to understand first

  1. Cards are abilities, not new pieces. A card might let your Knight strike from one square further, or let your Rook shove an enemy piece aside. Your Knight is still a Knight. (Battle Cards →)

  2. The Tension Gauge gates your power. Stronger cards only unlock as the game heats up. Early game you have light tools; late game, when the Tension Gauge is high, the dramatic cards come online. (The Tension Gauge →)

  3. Chess wins. Cards add depth and comebacks, and they can tip a close game, but they're built not to overturn a real gap in skill. ChessVS rewards board skill first and card timing second.

Who runs ChessVS?

ChessVS is built and operated by ChessVS, Inc., a Delaware C-Corporation. Your cards are collectible items tied to your account. Creating an account is all you need to do.
