Board Effects

Your club board is more than two colors. Each club's board is made of its own material, and a capture sends a shock wave across it. It's free for every player and only changes how the board looks: it never touches a move, a fight or a card.

The materialsโ€‹

  • Bitcoinia plays on brushed bronze.
  • Etheryst plays on faceted crystal.

The squares keep their club colors, and the material is made so your pieces stand out just as clearly as before. You see it on your match board, on matches you watch, on puzzle boards, in replays and when you look back through the move history.

On a live board, your own match or one you're watching, the lines between the squares also carry a soft, still glow.

Shock waveโ€‹

When a capture removes a piece, a shock wave ripples out across the board from the square where the piece fell, right after the clash. A fight where both pieces survive sends no wave.

You see it in your own matches and in matches you watch.

When the board stays stillโ€‹

There's no glow and no shock wave in Sparring Room lessons or in your first match, just the material. Once you've finished a game (a game against the AI counts), they start in your next one.

Settings: On, Reduced, Offโ€‹

Open Settings (the Settings tab on a phone, or your @name at the top of the screen on a computer) and find Battle Board effects under Gameplay. It reads: Club materials on your board and a shock wave on captures. Reduced keeps a still glow with no motion.

  • On (the default): the material, the soft glow along the board's lines, and the shock wave on captures.
  • Reduced: the material with a brighter still glow along the board's lines. Nothing moves, so there's no shock wave.
  • Off: the plain, flat board in your club's colors, with no material, glow or shock wave.

Your choice is saved on the device you set it on.

If your device asks for less motion. When your device is set to reduce motion and you haven't picked a level yourself, the board uses Reduced, and it follows that device setting if you change it later. Once you pick a level yourself, your choice always wins.
